What do other companies in the industry think of Johnson Matthey?
The good news is that Johnson Matthey has been voted number 2 in the annual list of ‘Britain’s Most Admired Companies’, our highest ever overall score. We were placed a close second to drinks manufacturer Diageo (of Guinness and Smirnoff fame) and came out ahead of other respected industry names such as Unilever (No 3), Tesco (No 5) and Rolls-Royce (No 7).
The survey is organised by business magazine Management Today. It asks Britain’s ten largest public companies in 24 sectors to evaluate their peers. Participants rated their sector rivals on a scale of 0 to 10 on their performance according to nine criteria, which included financial soundness, community and environmental responsibility and capacity to innovate. Analysts at leading City investment firms are also polled.
Johnson Matthey also ranked number 1 out of all 240 companies surveyed in terms of value as a long term investment and came out on top as the most admired company in the UK Chemicals sector.
The magazine noted that, unlike the others at the top of the league table, Johnson Matthey ‘eschews the limelight’, describing us as ‘a quiet success story’ and ‘consistent top five performer’ in the Most Admired list.
