Role Purpose/Accountabilities:
*Be an expert resource on bioinformatics data that is available internal and external to the company
*Work with R&D and IS stakeholders to actively manage bioinformatics data sets
*Seek out bioinformatics and "omics" data sets that are of value to our researchers
*Curate internalized data sets with metadata to facilitate researcher access and data management
*Work with R&D and IS stakeholders to agree on data management plans and establish data set lifecycles
*Provide scientists with expert knowledge on the application of bioinformatics and "omics" data sets *Partner with research and IS teams to develop integrated data sources
*Identify opportunities to integrate or consolidate data sets in order to make best use of available human and compute resources
*Lead and participate in data curation and data integration projects
*Contribute to the definition, development, and operation of the bioinformatics infrastructure
*Maintain awareness of, and disseminate information on, the authoritative data sources in our bioinformatics platform
*Understand the scientific & business objectives of the organization
*Convene with science & IS groups to effectively use company expertise and resources and share best practices.
*Determine appropriate databases required to achieve objectives as outlined in research project plans. *Partner with scientists & IS groups to define project requirements & schedules

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Critical knowledge: *A degree in the life sciences or significant experience working in the field is required
*A degree in bioinformatics, information science, or computer science, or equivalent experience, is required
*A graduate degree is desirable
*Demonstrated awareness of common public and commercial bioinformatics data resources required
*Facility with the SQL query language and understanding of database design principles required
*Familiarity with the Linux &/or Unix computing environments required
*Proficiency in Perl, Python, or other scripting language required
*Working understanding of information systems and the ability to communicate effectively with IS professionals
*Knowledge of common bioinformatics & "omics" data sets including sequence, pathways, & expression data

Critical Experience:
*Experience with instructing scientists on the use of bioinformatics data sets
*Experience with establishing data management policies
*Proven track record of leveraging publicly available biological data sets required
*Experience in handling of diverse bioinformatics needs of scientists
