Senior Research Scientist | Metabolomics

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research Scientist with expertise in metabolomics and analytical chemistry as well as knowledge in analytical chemistry/ biochemistry to take up a permanent position leading our Plant Metabolomics capability in the Forage Improvement group based in Palmerston North. The successful applicant will join a team of established research scientists and technicians and will participate in projects to improve forage plants for the New Zealand pastoral industries, sustainable resource use, and greenhouse gas mitigation.
You will play a key role in linking metabolomics and analytical chemistry expertise with plant breeding objectives. You will have a PhD in metabolomics (or related discipline) and will be able to demonstrate a track record of publications in this area. Practical experience with state of the art techniques for chemical analysis, characterisation, and data interpretation is critical for this position. Knowledge of chemical and biochemical analytical instrumentation and laboratory working environments would be an advantage and prior experience and expertise in operating advanced LC-MS instrumentation (UHPLC, Linear ion trap, Orbitrap, Q-Orbitrap) is required. Ideally you will possess a good knowledge of biochemistry and metabolism as well as a sound understanding of scientific methods and experimental design.
You will have good organisational skills, a commitment to high standards of performance and the ability to work well both as a team member and independently, producing high quality science to tight deadlines. The ability to collate and interpret experimental data and effectively communicate findings and conclusions will be essential. Effective communication with other team members, clients, and colleagues in research collaborations will be critical for this role. Presentation and publication of research results in high impact, international journals is a key performance indicator for this role.
