National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, Middlesex

Ref: AS-2012-HP

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is one of the UK's leading science facilities and research centres. It is a world-leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate standards, science and technology available.

NPL occupies a unique position as the UK's National Measurement Institute and sits at the intersection between scientific discovery and real world application. Its expertise and original research have underpinned quality of life, innovation and competitiveness for UK citizens and business for more than a century.

The Environmental Measurement group works with government, industry and academia to deliver a complex portfolio of cutting-edge research and measurement science solutions in the areas of air quality, emissions monitoring, climate change studies and atmospheric science. The group also has a long history of developing novel instrumentation to meet emerging air monitoring and analysis requirements.

We are now seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and talented scientist to be an active part of a project team delivering a range of exciting new research projects concerning the measurement of ambient gases and pollutants relevant to emissions monitoring and climate change science. Going forward, you should be keen to be involved in publishing and presenting the outputs of these projects.

You should have, at least, a good degree in a relevant physical or environmental science. Preferably, you will also have recent experience of working on relevant environmental research projects. The successful candidate can also expect to spend some of their time carrying out fieldwork in the UK and abroad.

As part of the Serco Group plc, we offer competitive salaries, a wealth of career opportunities and a wide range of benefits.

NPL is based in a unique research environment which is located in pleasant surroundings on the edge of Bushy Park in south-west London. We have a host of onsite facilities including a subsidised crèche, restaurant, and a sports and social club.

NPL Management Limited is committed to supporting their people to develop both personally and professionally and is committed to equal opportunities.
