Fera is an executive agency of Defra, our role is to support and develop a sustainable food chain, a healthy natural environment, and to protect the community from biological and chemical risks. The Food and Environmental Safety Programme at Fera exists to ensure the safety and quality of the food chain and the environment from which it is produced. It consists of nearly 200 scientists and direct support; organised into teams: Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines, Environmental Risk, ASIST, Environmental Contaminants, Process Contaminants and Migration and LCMS.

Senior Environmental Chemist
CSP 3729 Fixed Term Appointment (3 Years) from £31,944
The Senior Environment Chemist is responsible for the development of analytical chemical methodologies and monitoring relevant regulatory/ scientifi c issues concerning pesticides, veterinary medicines and other
organic chemicals. Liaising with others you will defi ne projects, produce study plans and reports and supervise the development and use of analytical methods in regulatory and other studies.

A good degree in a science-based subject (preferably chemistry or a related discipline) is required. Candidates without this level of qualifi cation will need to demonstrate relevant experience. You will have a good
understanding of developing and validating analytical methods for organic chemicals using chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques. Excellent interpersonal skills and team-working along with a proven ability
to produce clear and effective written reports are essential.
