JOB SPECIFICATION

Role:Development Chemist
Type:Temp' 6months
Location:Stevenage
Salary:Dependant on experience (shift allowance premium between 25-33%)

Details

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Development Chemist to work on a temporary basis for 6months, possibly longer. It may lead to a permanent position, although our Client cannot guarantee that at this stage. Although the position will be based on their Stevenage site candidates must be prepared to work abroad if and when required.

Our Clients portfolio of products includes steroids, prostaglandins and cannabinoids. Such products are difficult to synthesise and the development program may require novel routes to avoid patents. The chemistry undertaken is limitless and enables the Client to produce APIs which are unavailable elsewhere.

This will require working shifts, shift patterns may change depending on completion dates for projects you are working on. Recent shift patterns have included either a 2 or 3 pattern (6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm / 10pm-6am). When not working shifts they will work days; 8.30am to 4.45pm, 45mins for lunch.

The successful applicant should be experienced in the day to day running of general experimental setting, conduction of experiment and all of the chemical analysis techniques required to analyse the reaction and optimising the reactions for future scale up. Experienced in HPLC, NMR, IR, UV, DSC and crystallisation techniques is required. Experience in polymorphism would be an advantage, but is not essential.

The ideal applicant will have:

Experience of chemical synthesis
Experience of small / large scale through to pilot plant
Experience in development / optimisation work for scale up
Experience of working to GMP standards
Experience of writing required documentation i.e. batch sheets / safety reports etc.
Experience of HPLC

They MUST have a Chemistry degree or equivalent and / or a PhD in Chemistry, with a minimum of 2 / 3 years' experience of working in a production / laboratory / pharmaceutical environment, although training will be given.

Salary is dependent on experience and will include a shift allowance premium when working shifts (2 shift; 25% of salary / 3 shift; 33% of basic salary).
