The School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES), University College Cork, is seeking to make a permanent wholetime appointment in Geology to contribute to its research, teaching and related administration in the School.  Applications are invited for this post.

The successful candidate will be required to develop and teach modules in Geology as part of the undergraduate and postgraduate curricula and to develop an innovative Geological research programme(s). Research expertise applicable to the area of economic geology, e.g. hydrocarbon geology or mining geology, is desirable.  Applicants must hold a doctoral qualification in Geology, demonstrate evidence of peer-reviewed publication, and the potential of establishing/furthering a research programme(s) attracting external funding with collaborative links nationally and internationally.  Compatibility of research interests with national and international geological research priorities and complementary to, and an enhancement of, those of the School is desirable. An understanding of current effective teaching practice and an ability to coordinate and teach field modules is essential.

University College Cork is in the top 2% of research institutes in the world, situated in Cork, Ireland’s second largest city and recently European cultural capital. it is within easy reach of varied and well exposed geology. BEES (http://bees.ucc.ie) is one of the most research-active schools in UCC. The Discipline of Geology, within BEES, coordinates the Geology, International Field Geoscience and Earth Science (jointly with Geography) undergraduate degrees and an MSc programme in Exploration Field Geology.
Salary scale (new entrants): Appointment will be made on the Lectureship Salary Scale (new entrants 2011):  €31,821 - €51,270 / €62,353 - €81,459

*Existing public servants continuously employed in the public sector on/after 31st December 2010 will be placed on the 2010 salary scales (non new entrants)
