Scientific Solutions Principal Writer

A Scientific Solutions Principal Writer is responsible for either: (1) supporting large discrete scientific projects or programs of activities within a given account or (2) working independently across multiple accounts/clients, the number of which being dependent on their size and scope.

Key Responsibilities:

The Scientific Solutions Principal Writer will successfully implement all day-to-day aspects of assigned projects, programs of activities, or accounts. In so doing, the following are prerequisites:

Project Management

-  Client contact for all scientific/medical aspects of assigned projects, programs, accounts

-  Development and timely delivery of all assigned projects or programs

-  Managing and driving forward delivery of project components undertaken by others, e.g. Graphics, Production Editor

-  Expert use of Datavision™ consistent with account team requirements for all assigned projects

-  Provision of project status information as and when required

-  Working flexibly as part of an account team as required

-  Attend and lead (from a UBC-Envision Group perspective) face-to-face client/author meetings, as necessary

 

Scientific Writing

-  Outstanding medical writing ability with high scientific accuracy

-  Excellent ability to evaluate/critique data/information

-  Ability to interpret and translate raw scientific data and make recommendations to further support both scientific and commercial objectives

-  Superior use of communication points

-  Develop content and modify writing style for different medical audiences and publication/project output types

 

The Scientific Solutions Principal Writer role includes but is not limited to the following:

 

·       Provide strategic direction to specific account activities including:

­   Lead/undertake the development or the updating/augmenting of strategic publications plans for account/program, as required

­   Develop (at client request) key medical objectives and identify key clinical findings, as required

 

·            Involvement in financial management (undertaken by the Client Solutions Account Lead) via:

­   Input into budget generation for specific projects as required

­   Provision of project status information for assigned project/programs

­   Reporting of out-of-scope activities, etc

 

·         Act as a champion for a specific product/indication(s), providing in-depth knowledge and focus on the specific needs of the product within the particular therapeutic area(s) including:

-  Interact with individual study champions and key members of the client team

-  Maintain in-depth knowledge of authors, congresses, journal publishers, etc in designated therapy area(s)

-  Maintain up-to-date knowledge of therapy area(s) and competitor products

 

·         Develop/write publication plan outputs and communications including:

-  Liaise with authors, clients, congresses, and journal publishers

-  Determine appropriate target audiences

-  Provide congress and journal recommendations based on the clinical trial data/program and market assessment

-  Effective incorporation of key medical objectives and key clinical findings

-  Write/manage publication plan outputs, e.g. abstracts, posters, manuscripts (primary and secondary), presentations, slide kits, and other publications and communications initiatives to a consistently high standard

-  DatavisionTM: coordinate circulation and project reviews, and regularly input scientific updates

 

·       Ensure and maintain high standards of quality control and adhere to account team processes including:

­    Ensure necessary scientific and editorial quality control checks are undertaken on draft copy written by yourself prior to its provision to client

­    Ensure adherence to internal and external/client account team processes and procedures, advising as appropriate of any suggested improvements that will provide potential efficiencies and enhance client acceptability

­    Have ‘expert’ knowledge of (and keep current with revised/updated guidelines) ICMJE Guidelines, Good Publication Practice 2 Guidelines, and Consort Statement and Guidelines, and ensure their application across assigned projects or accounts

­    Have in-depth knowledge of a clients’ publication policy and ensure appropriate implementation across assigned projects or accounts

 

·         Support business development including:

­    Lead and be responsible for the development of the scientific section(s) of RFI and RFP responses, as appropriate

­    Lead and be responsible for the development of the scientific sections of pitch presentations

­    Attend and participate, in a scientific capacity, pitch presentations

 

 

Additional Responsibilities Undertaken by Some Principal Writers

 

·         Mentor an entry-level (or new to Envision) writer in the following:

-  Research and write publication plan outputs, e.g. abstracts, posters, manuscripts (primary and secondary), presentations, slide kits, and other publications and communications initiatives

-  Appropriate use of Datavision™ for project records, reviews, approvals, etc

-  Target audiences, medical objectives, key clinical findings, competitors, market, etc for their product account

-  Internal and external/client account team processes and procedures

 

·         Line management responsibilities for assigned entry-level writer, including approving timesheets/vacation via FocalPoint, and with the help of the Scientific Solutions Team Lead as necessary, undertaking their performance appraisals, plus development and implementation of training plans in line with Company policy
