Organization Overview:
Science Spark, a non-profit educational outreach initiative best known for creating the hugely successful and nationally recognized USA Science & Engineering Festival in October of 2010, and again in April 2011, is currently planning the 3rd Festival to take place in Washington, DC (date TBD). Our mission is to re-invigorate the interest of our nation's youth (particularly underserved communities) in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by producing and presenting the most compelling, exciting, educational and entertaining science festivals in the United States.

General Function:
Position reports to the Co-Director, and supports all aspects of planning the 3rd USA Science & Engineering Festival, combining administrative duties with hands on marketing and event planning experience. The position is ideal for a bright, articulate, highly-motivated recent college graduate or intern who wants to expand their marketing and event planning skills, and be involved in creating the largest celebration of science and engineering in the US.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
 Assist with recruiting and managing Sponsors, Exhibitors and Performers
 Maintain updated, comprehensive list of Sponsors, Exhibitors and Performers
 Manage Book Fair component – recruiting Exhibitors and Authors and serve as liaison to Books a Million
 Negotiate and manage hotel contracts; evaluate and manage all other vendor relations
 Manage Author, Performer and Celebrity interactions and itineraries
 Coordinate School interactions; serve as main point of contact
 Attend local Events to recruit new Sponsors, Exhibitors and Partners
 Manage Partner barter agreement compliance
 Recruit and Maintain Media Partners and assure compliance with Media Barter Agreements
 Assist with Festival Expo execution – this requires on the ground participation the month of the Festival in Washington, DC
 Manage aspects of Festival website and Partner Portal

Qualifications:
The candidate must be available the month leading up to the Festival to provide on the ground support in Washington, DC during the Festival. A background or interest in the STEM field is helpful but not required.

Festival Marketing Coordinator Position
 Bachelor’s degree preferred in Communications, Marketing, Business or related field. Interns also considered who have experience.
 One to three years of experience in marketing, event planning, communications/PR or related field.
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Editing skills preferred.
 Good judgment, attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
 Experience with managing deadlines and multiple projects. Ability to work in teams and pitch-in on the small tasks as well as taking a lead on larger projects.
 Competency in all Microsoft Office programs including Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook.

Benefits: Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. This role is an independent contractor position, with no additional benefits offered.

Location: Candidate can work from home office with frequent phone meetings with team, and occasional trips to DC. Physical location in DC or NYC preferred, but not necessary.
