CANADA RESEARCH CHAIR TIER 2
SOLAR ENERGY CONVERSION
The Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia invite applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Solar Energy Conversion. The Chair is expected to provide leadership within the University and Canada through a field-defining program focused on establishing the technological breakthroughs and fundamental research required to develop chemical processes utilizing solar energy. Possible focal areas include development of nanomaterials for solar energy conversion and solar fuels, solar assisted electrocatalysis or photocatalysis. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or in a closely related field, and have a strong commitment to high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching. Relevant industrial and teaching experience are assets.
The successful candidate must possess the skills, background and motivation needed to quickly build an independent research program of international calibre within the area defined above that leverages current strengths within the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, as well as within complementary and affiliated interdisciplinary centres such as the Clean Energy Research Centre (CERC), the Advanced Materials and Process Engineering Laboratories (AMPEL), and the Michael Smith Laboratories (MSL). The successful candidate will be eligible to hold a joint appointment between the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level but an appointment at the rank of associate professor may be considered for applicants with exceptional qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is July 1st, 2013.
