Job Description:

  • Generate and characterize live attenuated influenza vaccines by reverse genetics
  • Molecular cloning: cDNA cloning, plasmid preparation in accordance with the GLP standard, DNA sequence analysis and DNA transfection
    Influenza virus techniques including virus plaque assay, virus amplification in tissue culture cells and embryonated eggs, serologic assays such as HAI and micro neutralization assays
  • Support vaccine development group function as well
    Provide support through operational and technical expertise to Operations staff
  • Provide technical support to production and quality groups during investigations
  • Liaise and coordinate MSAT activities, ensuring alignment with UK1 business objectives and needs
  • Provide technical training and underpinning knowledge training to manufacturing, QA and QC departments to improve process and analytical knowledge, and understanding of the process.


Position Requirements:

  • To have a minimum of a life science degree, preferable in molecular or cellular biology.
  • Virology Training is a preference
  • Some Laboratory experience is essential
  • Good experience of reverse genetics/molecular biology in an academic or commercial setting is advantageous.
  • The job holder must be capable of making independent decisions and will be expected to exercise judgement and decisiveness
    The job holder will be expected to participate in inter-company and cross site meetings and requires the ability to liaise at all levels.
  • Aseptic techniques, mammalian cell cultures, molecular cloning, RT-PCR, DNA transfection, RNA and protein analyses and experience in virological and immunological assays.
  • Multi-task, team player with excellent organization, record keeping and oral/written communication skills.  
  • Familiar with Microsoft office programs and DNA sequencing analysis software.
  • The job holder must be capable of making independent decisions and will be expected to exercise judgement and decisiveness
  • The job holder will be expected to participate in inter-company and cross site meetings and requires the ability to liaise at all levels.

Additional Notes:

  • Knowledge of GLP, in particular manufacturing and/or laboratory practices and quality systems
  • Good knowledge of laboratory equipment, facilities, engineering and instrumentation
  • Knowledge and experience with analytical testing requirements of biological manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of process/method development, including QbD, PAT, DoE and statistical analysis
  • Project Management skills
  • Strong technical report writing skills and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of ICH guidelines and experience in analytical validation (desirable but not essential)
  • The job holder must be capable of making independent decisions and will be expected to exercise judgement and decisiveness
  • Live Virus experience preferable
