Post-Doctoral Research Scientist (REF: 1198)
A Post-doctoral Research Scientist is required as part of the Rothamsted Research’s Designing Seeds for Nutrition and Health research programme which aims to utilise our expertise in seed biology and biochemistry to deliver improved health and nutrition through seeds.
The successful applicant will join a well-established wheat grain programme, with a specific focus on the functional analysis of lipids involved in the breadmaking process. It is well known that the bubble stability and hence breadmaking performance are strongly determined by endogenous polar lipids, but the mechanisms of action are not understood.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the following main research areas:
- The application of state of the art analytical techniques to identify the key lipids responsible for gas cell stability and their mechanism for action .
- Identify sources of variation in these key lipids to underpin breeding programmes.
To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, we are seeking a highly motivated researcher with a proven track record in plant biochemistry and metabolite analysis. Experience of lipid extraction and standard analytical techniques would be a distinct advantage.
As a member of a multidisciplinary group, the ability to work as part of the a team and excellent communications skills are essential.
The post is funded for 2 years at Band D with a starting salary normally in the range of £28,110 to £31,677 per annum.
