As Systems Biologist (Plant Sciences) you will deliver lead projects relating to bioinformatics and analysis of omics datasets, providing technical expertise and methodologies for mining large sets of data. Applying your expertise in systematic and integrative approaches to accelerating discovery in molecular breeding programmes and your knowledge of programming languages (Perl, Java, C/C++) and data mining methodologies, you will lead and support colleagues across a range of challenging scientific projects. You will also provide training and support to colleagues regarding the handling and analysis of large datasets.

 

You will work with a number of internal departments to drive scientific excellence, and liaise with external organisations and research partners to advance plant based systems biology science, communicating your scientific research within the organisation via presentations and reports, and externally at conferences and through robust scientific publications. Where possible you will also investigate opportunities for collaboration and licensing new technologies with internal and external stakeholders.

 

Skills and Experience Required:

 

  • Degree (ideally MSc or PhD) in plant sciences, biology or statistics.
  • Confident user of statistical packages, databases and at least one programming languages (Perl, Java, C/C++).
    Track record of applying system biological tools to breeding programs (preferable).

·         Interest in and understanding of developments in systems biology.
