We provide an exciting, stimulating place to learn and work. Our standards of academic achievement are high, our environment is inspiring and we embrace innovation in all that we do. And with exceptional opportunities for staff development, our students are not the only ones who thrive here.
The C14-BIG project is a joint NDA/EPSRC funded project under the RCUK Energy programme involving the Universities of Huddersfield, Bristol and UCLAN. The aim of the C14-BIG project is to provide an improved understanding of the behaviour of Carbon-14 originating from reactor graphite in radioactive waste disposal sites.
As part of this project we are looking for an ambitious individual to develop a biogeochemical transport code to simulate the behaviour of Carbon-14 in a range of waste disposal scenarios. Working closely with experimentalists you will apply the developed model to a range of experimental data to provide an insight into Carbon-14 behaviour and a more realistic simulation of its environmental transport.
You should have a degree in mathematics, engineering or a science discipline and either a higher degree in environmental modelling or significant research experience in the development and application of environmental transport codes. Experience in hydrogeology, geochemical modelling and the modelling of coupled environmental processes would be advantageous. Excellent communication skills, the ability to work within a
multidisciplinary team and the interpretation of experimental datasets are essential.
You will be subject to vetting (security clearance) in accordance with the UK’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard.
