
The prime responsibility of the Toolmaker is to ensure that tooling maintenance is carried out correctly and efficiently as directed by the Tooling Engineer to ensure maximum up time of injection moulds within the Tooling department. Also when directed, to troubleshoot and carry out repairs utilising the resources available on site. PPM and breakdowns.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensuring tools are maintained to produce components that meet specification
Diagnosis of tooling failures and component quality issues.
Assessment of tooling following any unplanned downtime
Daily reports to Tooling Engineer on tooling status
Liaise with Production Manager and Supervisors
Liaise with sub-contract Toolmakers regarding tooling repairs
Daily update of tooling status spreadsheets to ensure visibility of tooling status within the organisation
Managing the stock of consumable items and updating Tooling Engineer of status
To comply diligently with all administrative requirements of the job including:-
Completion and maintenance of appropriate records.
Raising of necessary paperwork to facilitate tool trials and tooling repairs when required.
Completion of other administrative requirements requested from time to time
To care and maintain all Company documents, materials and other equipment under his/her control.
To conduct himself/herself in a professional manner at all times including the maintenance of good appearance acceptable to customers and management.
To ensure that all activities are carried out cost effectively within Company guidelines.
To undertake any other activities requested by the Tooling Engineer deemed to be within the capabilities of the Toolmaker.
People Management
To provide guidance and training for apprentices in all aspects of toolmaking and associated activities
Knowledge and Expertise
Computer literate Experience of Tooling Hot Runner Systems Ability to read Tooling drawings Ability to confidently deal with people of all levels
Able to diagnose Tooling faults
Managing preventative maintenance Medical device manufacturing ISO 13485, cGMP, CFR 820
Qualifications
Recognised Toolmaking / Engineering apprenticeship
Personal Characteristics
Effective team worker, equally able to work on their own Highly self-motivated/self starter/resilient Strong communication skills Hands-on style
