Research Scientist,  Neuroscience Abingdon, Oxfordshire We are looking for a Research Scientist to join our world-class team and enjoy working in an integrated environment where chemists, biologists, structural biologists and computational chemists work closely together to tackle some of the most ambitious projects in the industry. Vertex scientists and our collaborators are working on new medicines to cure or significantly advance the treatment of hepatitis C, cystic fibrosis, epilepsy and other life-threatening diseases. Founded more than 20 years ago in Cambridge, MA, we now have ongoing worldwide research programs and sites in the U.S., U.K. and Canada.   In our Research Centre in Oxfordshire, we have brought together scientists from multiple disciplines and backgrounds to form a highly creative and productive team working in the areas of oncology, inflammation and neurodegenerative diseases. As our neuroscience expert, you will be involved in a cutting-edge area of research focussed on identifying and targeting underlying disease mechanisms to develop new drugs for the treatment of diseases including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). You will bring in considerable practical expertise in CNS cell assay techniques. The role will involve the development and validation of cell-based assays and target validation studies using state-of-the-art technology. We will also look to you to make a major contribution to the research strategy of the neuroscience programs. A proactive individual with a demonstrable talent for lateral thinking, you will need to be highly motivated and possess excellent team working skills. You will need a relevant PhD, preferably with expertise in the field of neurodegenerative diseases. You will also have some postdoctoral research experience in the field, working in industry or academia.
