Research Fellow
We are seeking an independent and highly motivated individual to work with Dr Euan Bain of the School of Engineering and Professor Fredrik Glasser of the School of Natural and Computing Sciences (Chemistry), in collaboration with other staff at the Schools of Engineering and Natural and Computing Sciences (Chemistry) at the University of Aberdeen, on the Green Concrete Project. The focus of your work will be to conduct research on the industrial scale production of novel cement formulations. The work defines 1 of 4 main components of the Green Concrete Project, which additionally encompasses the investigation and development of novel low carbon cement formulations, the use of a range of novel and recycled concrete aggregates and development of novel, functionally enhanced green concrete products. You will join a large, internationally leading multi-disciplinary research team working at the forefront of sustainable construction and materials research.
You will be expected to hold an accredited Honours Degree (BSc, BEng or MEng) at 1st class or Upper 2nd in chemical or process engineering or related discipline, plus a PhD in a relevant area of research. You will also be expected to demonstrate knowledge of solid- gaseous reactions and of reaction kinetics, accompanied by experience of modern characterisation techniques applied to solids and gaseous mixtures.
You will be required to demonstrate your ability to carry out high quality research, with experience of working successfully in a research laboratory, preferably at post-doctoral level and with project management responsibility. A flexible approach to work is essential, as you will be required to travel overseas frequently. This will include being required to spend time living and working in Qatar, sometimes for extended periods.
As this post is funded by external research partners, it will be offered for a period of 4 years. This appointment will be made subject to the usual terms and conditions of employment of the University.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 salary scale (£30,122 - £35,938 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience.
