Research Fellow
We are seeking an independent and highly motivated individual to work with Professor Fredrik Glasser and Professor Donald Macphee of the School of Natural and Computing Sciences (Chemistry) at the University of Aberdeen, in collaboration with staff at the School of Engineering, on the Green Concrete Project. The focus of his / her work will be to conduct research leading to the development of novel inorganic cementitious systems. The work defines 1 of 4 main components of the Green Concrete Project, which additionally encompasses the investigation and development of novel cement production processes, use of a range of novel and recycled concrete aggregates and development of novel, functionally enhanced green concrete products. The successful candidate will be based in Aberdeen but will travel regularly to Doha (Qatar) to work with our partners over there. He / she will join a large, internationally leading multi-disciplinary research team working at the forefront of sustainable construction and materials research.
You will be expected to hold an accredited Honours Degree at 1st class or Upper 2nd (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Minerology, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or allied subject, plus a PhD in a relevant discipline. You will also be expected to demonstrate an understanding of phase characterisation methods and their application to solid state and solid- gas reactions, with experience of developing links between engineering properties of materials and their chemistry/ mineralogy.
You will be required to demonstrate your ability to carry out high quality research, with experience of working successfully in a research laboratory, preferably at post-doctoral level and with project management responsibility. A flexible approach to work is essential, as you will be required to travel overseas frequently. This will include being required to spend time living and working in Qatar, sometimes for extended periods.
As this post is funded by external research partners, it will be offered for a period of 4 years. This appointment will be made subject to the usual terms and conditions of employment of the University.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 salary scale (£30,122 - £35,938 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience.
