Senior Research Technician

Our London based client is developing the next generation of carbon capture technologies and cement systems. They are now seeking a senior research technician to work in an industrially-focused R&D environment that is friendly, interdisciplinary and exciting.  

Applications are invited from candidates who have a desire to learn and are keen to acquire new skills with an ability to work both independently and in a team.  You will be flexible and disciplined in your attitude to work, with good time management skills and will be Computer literate, with good English language writing skills.

The successful applicant will have Technician level training and qualifications
With significant work experience in mechanical or chemical engineering, ideally working with high-pressure equipment or experience from chemical/process industries.

Specific duties and responsibilities will include:

·    Acting as Lead Operator of the pilot plant and ancillary equipment
·    Following SOP’s
·    Flexibility, typically operating a planned program between 7.00 and 21.00
·    Maintaining plant equipment such as heat transfer units and pumps
·    Installation of new equipment or modifications to existing equipment
·    Training new staff ensuring a safe and capable operational team
·    Assisting in the update of operation, maintenance and safety procedures
·    Keeping record and purchase spare parts for the pilot plant

Our client will consider applications from candidates who have experience in the following:

·    Maintenance of lab equipment, including heat transfer units and pumps
·    Use of mechanical workshop techniques such as milling, turning, grinding and drilling
·    Marking out using all common precision measuring tools on a range of materials
·    Reading technical drawings and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
·    Using Swagelok fittings
·    Gas cylinder handling and cylinder-regulator connection
·    Good plumbing skills

Role: Permanent
Location: London
Salary: Up to £35,000 to £40,000 per annum
Shift: hours between 07.00am and 21.00pm
