Laboratory Chemist –Waste Water, Organic Contaminants
Ref: 17514
Permanent, North West

Our Client, Arvia Technology, is the innovator behind a revolutionary technology to remove organic contamination from diverse aqueous effluents. This entrepreneurial organisation is ready to penetrate the markets and now seek motivated individuals to work with them.

The Laboratory Chemist will carry out laboratory work on both routine samples (potable waters, effluent waters, or aqueous suspensions of oils and prospective client samples for assessment of organic waste removal).
Initially logging samples into the lab, the chemist will then carry out assessments to include pH, COD, TOC, conductivity, and visual appraisals, record all results keeping accurately documented details. The sample is then introduced into treatment cells within an Arvia test unit for removal of organic contaminants.
For routine samples the process will be straight-forward and final analyses will be carried out such as COD, or use of HPLC, TLC, UV/Vis or fluorescence spectrophotometry to check for total organic destruction.
For non-routine samples the scientist will experiment with changing parameters to optimise the waste-removal conditions, prior to reporting results internally and sometimes to clients face-to-face.
In addition there may be some requirement to carry out treatment on radioactive waste for clients – this would involve site visits for demonstrations.
The successful candidate will be a chemist with good wet-chemistry skills and previous use of analytical instrumentation (HPLC, spectrophotometers). Knowledge of radio-chemistry would be a bonus. They will have the curiosity to trial tests and repeat for validation, they’ll have tenacity to take tasks through to the best conclusion and they will be comfortable in front of clients.
Ideally qualified to degree level chemistry (or equivalent) with some analytical chemistry and laboratory experience.
