Regenerative Pharmacology Group
Leukocyte Biology
National Heart and Lung Institute
Research Associate
Applications are invited for a Wellcome Trust-funded Research Associate to work in Professor Sara Rankin’s Regenerative Pharmacology group. The overall aim of the project is to investigate the molecular mechanisms regulating the mobilisation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from the bone marrow into the blood, with a view to developing novel pharmacological approaches to promote tissue regeneration.
You will investigate the molecular mechanisms that regulate mobilisation of MSCs from the bone marrow and seek to identify novel pharmacological approaches to mobilise these stem cells. Thi project will utilise a range of in vivo, in vitro and molecular techniques. Stem cell mobilisation will be assessed using the in situ perfusion model of femoral bone marrow developed by Professor Rankin’s group that requires an ability to perform microsurgery. Analysis of experiments will involve colony assays, flow cytometry, qPCR. Paracrine effects of stem cells may be important in driving tissue regeneration; we are therefore specifically interested in determining the secretome of the mobilised stem cells.
You should have a PhD in Pharmacology/Immunology/Haematology or related subject, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience. You should have demonstrable experience with in vivo models and have an interest in stem cell trafficking and tissue regeneration. Expertise in genomics and/or proteomics would also be advantageous.
This post is full-time and fixed-term for three years, and it based at South Kensington Campus.
