Controls Software Engineer

The Accelerator Division at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Controls Software Engineer.
ESS is seeking an expert software developer for its Integrated Control System (ICS) department. The ESS accelerator, a pulsed superconducting linac, to be built in Lund, will produce a 5MW average power proton beam, driving the world’s most powerful neutron source. The ICS will control ESS accelerator, target, scientific experiments and conventional facilities. The successful applicant will be responsible for developing high level controls and physics applications within ICS.
Description of main responsibilities
The main responsibility will be software development of physics and control system high level codes including interface definition, interface implementation, application and tool design, as well as perform other common tasks that are relevant to the position. The applicant will work with many scientists and engineers across ESS divisions to complete the tasks.
Qualifications
Candidates are expected to have at least a masters degree in computer science or equivalent software development education as well as several years of experience of practical work with application development stemming from scientific environments. In particular the candidate should be familiar with the following:
- Mainstream programming languages (C, C++, C#, Java)
- Control system frameworks (EPICS)
- Software development tools (CVSs, IDEs, VMs)
- Accelerator physics applications (TraceWin, MADX,…)
- Accelerator physics
Experience of working in an international environment is essential. Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
