Laboratory Overview

The Crompton Laboratory focuses on leveraging proteomic and genomic approaches to transform treatment approaches for pediatric solid tumor malignancies. We utilize high-throughput chemical and molecular screening coupled with proteomic and genomic profiling to identify new targeted therapeutic approaches for aggressive pediatric sarcomas. New targets and therapies are validated in cell line and mouse xenograft models with the goal of initiating new clinical trials. We also utilize highly quantitative genomic techniques to develop non-invasive liquid biopsy assays for patients with pediatric sarcomas.

Job Description and Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced research animal technician to assist in our work validating new therapeutic approaches in mouse models of pediatric sarcomas. Your duties will include humane care and handling of mice, performing technical and surgical procedures, peri-operative nursing care, recording daily clinical observations, dosing administration, and collecting measurements and samples. Engraftment of sarcoma xenograft models require injecting cell lines and patient-derived tumor material. Target and treatment validation will require molecular manipulation of cells with gene-editing techniques as well as the administration of investigational treatments in engrafted animals. This position will also require a willingness to participate in experiments at the bench, including but not limited to, performing in vitro experiments with cells in culture and basic molecular and biochemical techniques. Experience with in vitro techniques is not required, but an eagerness to learn and excel at these techniques will be necessary. Other responsibilities may include participation in basic operational tasks for the laboratory and participation in lab meetings. You will work closely with the principal investigator to design and prioritize experiments and will be expected to train and assist other members of the laboratory in animal experiments. Your research will significantly impact several major research projects with high potential for co-authorship on scientific publications.

Qualifications

This position will require adaptability to fast-paced research environment, ability to function in a highly collaborative environment, and excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills. Candidates should have a BSor BA, and a minimum of 2 years of full-time animal technician experience in a medical or scientific research setting or comparable technology-oriented business environment. Experience conducting in vivo studies is necessary, with proficiency in techniques such as tail vein and subcutaneous injection of cancer cells, gavage and IP administration of drugs, bioluminescent imaging, and monitoring of mice for toxicity. Prior training in biological lab bench techniques such as cell culture, molecular, and biochemical techniques is preferred but not required.
