About Oxford Genetics:

Oxford Genetics is a dynamic and rapidly expanding synthetic biology company, specialised in the field of DNA and cell line engineering. The company has a mixed model of direct plasmid sales, via our online catalogue, combined with the contract construction of genetically modified plasmids and cell lines, for a variety of applications. We are located at the Begbroke Science Park, just north of Oxford, within easy commuting distance of Oxford, Bicester and Banbury. We are now expanding our cell line development offerings, covering a diverse range of targets including antibodies, antigens and viruses (e.g. lentivirus and AAV). The appointee will be focused on supporting commercial cell line development projects and internal research and platform development.

Two positions are available in this area of the business. These roles will involve the design and implementation of cell line engineering projects in a laboratory operating to good laboratory practice (GLP) like and ISO:9001 conditions. We are seeking highly motivated individuals, able to use their initiative and work efficiently as part of a small team. Previous experience working in a cell line development or molecular biology laboratory would be essential.

Preferred skills include:

  • BSc/MSc in a biological sciences/biotechnology discipline
  • standard mammalian cell culture techniques and methods for both adherent and suspension cell lines
  • antibody and recombinant protein expression in mammalian expression systems
  • knowledge of how retroviruses and lentiviruses are used in biotechnology
  • accurate record keeping
  • attention to detail
  • ability to ensure experiments are well planned out and with appropriate controls

Knowledge and/or experience of flow cytometry (and FACS), robotic liquid handling systems, western blotting, ELISA and reporter gene assays using luminescence and fluorescence would be advantageous.

The positions are available from September. The appointee will be expected to work as part of an integrated team and to show a commitment to high quality scientific innovation. An enthusiasm to learn and capitalise on the opportunity to assist company growth and development would be a major advantage.
