Do you have knowledge in the areas of genetics/genomics and DNA sequencing?

Do you have laboratory experience using molecular biology techniques?

Are you looking for an opportunity to work with the world leader in Next Generation DNA Sequencing, NGS, technology?

At Illumina, we apply innovative technologies for studying genetic variation and function, making studies possible that were not even imaginable just a few years ago.

Illumina currently have an opportunity for a Research Associate position to join a high-visibility project that will sequence 100,000 whole genomes of cancer patients and children and adults associated with rare genetic disease as a way of better understanding the underlying causes of disease and ultimately revolutionize the fight against cancer and rare genetic disease (http://www.genomicsengland.co.uk/ ).  The project is primarily a production DNA sequencing service and you will carry out whole human genome sequencing.

This position is primarily a lab based role which will involve processing samples from our external collaborators and performing NGS analysis on them.  This is a great opportunity to work on the sequencing platform that has produced 90%+ of all NGS data ever produced.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

Education:

Degree in the biological sciences is required

Experience:

  • Proven laboratory experience in the area of life sciences (can be academic or industrial)
  • Strong background in applying techniques of molecular biology
  • Background in human genetics or NGS would be advantageous
  • ISO and GMP knowledge would be useful
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in standard computer skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, ability to implement complex protocols
  • Excellent lab book notation skills – must be precise and accurate
