JOB SUMMARY                                                  

The Database Administrator is responsible for proving technical support for the SQL Server database environment. This includes overseeing the development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providing the Information Technology department with a long-term perspective on the relationship of database technology to the business opportunities facing the company.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops a methodology for the ongoing assessment and proactive monitoring of the database performance and the identification of problem areas, to ensure availability and performance of the databases that support the business applications

  • Develops a security scheme for the database environment, including authentication, authorization and auditing.Additionally, assist in developing disaster recovery and business continuity plans; including testing of said plans

  • Responsible for providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management

  • Provides leadership during the development and enhancement of production applications including working with technical support and operations during the design, development and implementation of applications

  • Works with the transaction processing area to develop both the physical and the logical database administration functions and assists in the development of our processing database and computing environments

  • Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases and SharePoint to included rollout and upgrades

  • Work with others in Information Technology to build the logical database area and provide technical guidance during all phases of the development process

  • Work with vendors in evaluating and implementing new technologies

  • Responsible for proactively tuning the databases and SharePoint to ensure proper operation of all applications

  • Work with users to increase SharePoint usage

  • Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving of the SQL and SharePoint environments

  • Works with user community to ascertain reporting requirements, then develop proper methods for extracting and displaying the data to the user

  • Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timescales and costs

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology or related field

  • 2-3 years of IT operations experience with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices

  • 3-5 years of Microsoft SQL Server experience

  • Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

  • Knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices

  • Experience with data management and data processing flowcharting techniques

  • In depth SQL Server Database Administration experience

  • SharePoint a plus

  • Practical experience with MS SQL 2005, 2008, 2012

  • SSIS Experience

  • Strong self-sufficiency and initiative working on database projects

  • Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service

  • Practical experience in managing the internal and external MS SQL database security

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
