New Product Development Consultant - Food Innovation - Food Research - Permanent - Surrey - £45k + Excellent Company Benefits

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly capable Food New Product Development Consultant to join the Science and Innovation Department of a leading Food Research company. The main scope of this role will be the responsibility for delivering and helping to sell the company's product development services. This will include project management and contributing technically to a broad range of product development projects that span multiple categories and development stages, from concept to launch, including practical and desk based work. You will regularly engage with senior level clients, mainly in R&D functions, to engage them in the organisations work and demonstrate how the company may be of assistance to them, with the ultimate objective of selling projects. The Broad expectation is that you will be spending 60% of your time on project delivery and 40% of your time on business development activities. You will report to and take direction from your line manager or relevant project lead.

The role will be based at the company's Epsom site although some occasional travel may be required.

Project Management
*Planning for, monitoring progress against and meeting deadlines with consideration to project scope, evolving client requirements and potential creep
*Managing multiple projects simultaneously whilst achieving project deliverables within budget, timeline and to the quality expected
*Communicating with the client as project focal point
*Comfortable managing projects that may be outside of your immediate expertise and recognising the need for technical support from within or outside of the Group

Project delivery
*Providing technical (practical and desk based) input to product development, ingredients and nutrition projects
*Discover and understand client's key drivers and success metrics, and ensure the project team are conscious of these
*Provide technical (practical and desk based) and non-technical input to projects to frame analysis & storyline for complicated tasks
*Mentor and supervise other members of staff, providing constructive feedback and facilitating a learning culture whilst ensuring the quality of deliverables
*Engaging with 3rd parties (e.g. universities, suppliers or associates) to fill knowledge gaps or capability requirements not retained in-house

Business development
*Supporting the sales team by identifying potential areas of new business, providing technical support and building relationships with key clients
*Providing support to sales team to identify the type of clients we could assist
*Engage with clients on a technical level to outline potential workscopes and estimate resource (people, materials, equipment) to deliver this
*Contribute to the development of proposals, ensuring sound technical approach
*Recognising commercial drivers of the client and how these may impact our business, developing long term relationships and repeat business with key clients

Experience & Qualifications
The successful candidate should have:
*Proven track record of project management
*Strong scientific background (e.g. degree in Science or Food Science)
*Demonstrable experience of performing and/or managing desk based research (e.g. literature review) and lab based, practical development (NPD or EPD) at bench scale
*Previous experience working within a major food manufacturer or retailer
*Is innovative and autonomous, able to manage time effectively and work as part of multi-disciplinary group
*Excellent project management, able to delegate and manage time effectively
*Excellent client facing skills including and has the ability to build long-term relationships with clients and prospects
*Comfortable working in new areas of development
*Possess an awareness of broad Food Industry trends and implications for clients, particularly the commercial drivers and a vision as to how a new products can be created to exploit this
*MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point)
*Previous management of a team is desirable
