With circa 1300 staff based in two main locations and peripatetically across the UK and abroad, we enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices. 

The regulatory arm of the agency, the MHRA, consists of Vigilance and Risk Management of Medicines (VRMM), Licensing, Devices and Inspection, Enforcement & Standards (IE&S). The MHRA is responsible for regulating all medicines and medical devices in the UK by ensuring they work and are acceptably safe. 

Purpose of the role:

Devices Division is the business unit that deals with the safety and regulation of medical devices & equipment. It comprises three sections: Regulatory; Information & Operations and Safety & Surveillance. 

This is an entry level post in the Device Safety and Surveillance Group with responsibility for investigating adverse incidents and providing safety advice and guidance on a range of medical devices including: 

•surgical instruments and disposables, patient monitors, vascular and non-vascular infusion systems, imaging equipment and wheelchairs. 
•implantable and in vitro diagnostic devices 

The posts involve processing and investigating adverse incidents to a satisfactory conclusion in conjunction with senior colleagues. The successful applicants will work across the range of devices handled by each unit. 

The work will require liaising with stakeholders from healthcare, industry and others and may involve occasional travel within the UK as part of some investigations.


A degree or equivalent qualification or equivalent relevant experience: 

•Degree or equivalent qualification in a discipline relevant to the product areas covered by the Unit, e.g. life science (e.g. biological, biomedical, biotechnology), engineering (e.g., mechanical, electrical, medical), applied science (biomaterials, physics) or healthcare qualification. 

•Previous experience in healthcare, medical device manufacturing or regulatory.
