Their scientists and engineers are working with partners around the globe to develop fusion as a new source of clean energy for tomorrow`s power stations.

Department function high voltage and Neutral Beam Power Supplies

They are currently seeking a Graduate Engineer to be involved in the design, modification, troubleshooting, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the `Additional Heating` Power Supplies plant. These power supplies have a range of technologies including 36kV ac powered transformers, ac thyristor controllers, IGBT based invertors, high voltage rectifier systems (up to 160 kV dc), SF6 electrical insulation systems, control cubicles and cabling, and associated electrical/mechanical services.

The main responsibilities of the role will include:

Contributes and/ or leads in the design, manufacturing, assembly, installation and commissioning of the Neutral Beam power supplies
Fault finding and repair, both on the power circuits and on the control circuits (ideally down to electronic board level)
Appointment as a Deputy Plant Responsible Officer (DPRO), responsible for the operational reliability and availability of a specified section of plant
Familiar with the use and implementation of plant interlocks and plant safety
Work shifts as Neutral Beam Power Supply Operator

Essential Aptitudes and Experience:

A University Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering is essential
Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
In many cases standard industrial solutions are not applicable; therefore the ability to solve problems from first principles and propose novel approaches will be an essential asset

Desirable ExperienceMembership of the IET leading to Chartered Engineering status
