Based at our state of the art headquarters in Oranmore, Co. Galway, Ireland

Calling all Scientists, the Marine Institute currently has an interesting opportunity within the Demersal Team of our Fisheries Ecosystems Advisory Services (FEAS) group.

We would like to meet with a solutions oriented, dynamic team player with a proven track record in delivering to a high standard in a busy, scientific and technical environment. The Team Lead will be responsible for leading a team of fisheries scientists in conducting assessments and providing advice on demersal fisheries stocks; central to delivery of a key service to the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine. This will be done via data collection, analysis and assisting in the development of fisheries management plans and drafting scientific advice for relevant expert groups, including ICES and STECF.

An important element of this role will be to effectively build and maintain professional relationships with industry representatives, environmental NGO’s and other organisations in supporting Ireland’s obligations under the DCMAP programme and the CFP.

You will hold a primary degree in a relevant scientific discipline with proven relevant work experience; to include high levels of experience in fisheries assessment and advice, with a demonstrated ability in conducting stock assessments and analysing fisheries data. You will be a natural leader with a demonstrated knowledge of relevant National, EU and international fisheries policies and programmes and experience participating at international meetings and engaging with key stakeholders in this area.
