With our training, you can help solve crimes for London

Here at the Met Police, Forensic Services are in more demand than ever. Advanced technology and techniques are playing an increasingly important role in solving crime – as are the experts who apply them. We’re therefore expanding our team by recruiting more Forensic Examiners. It’s a varied role in a fast-paced setting where you can do something great for London.

Working in either the Biology & Trace department or Fingerprint Enhancement Laboratory, you’ll examine exhibits relating to criminal investigations. You’ll use a range of accredited scientific techniques and work on both volume and serious crime. Deadlines and accuracy are crucial – so you must be efficient, professional and thorough. We’ll expect you to manage your casework and deliver findings on time. With opportunities to attend major crime scenes, work on research projects and provide expert witness testimony in court, you’ll have a role that’s unlike any other.

We’ll provide first-class training, but you must bring qualifications: A-levels (or equivalent) including at least one science subject and ideally a science degree. A BSc will be essential if you want to progress to more senior roles. We’re also looking for an understanding of forensic science principles and a keen eye for detail. With these skills plus an analytical mind, you’ll be able to make key decisions. Your logical and exacting approach must come with a high level of integrity. We’ll expect you to be reliable, trustworthy and to train more junior staff in the future.

If you’re ready to work on high-profile cases as part of a team, there could be an exciting role waiting in the UK’s biggest police service.

To apply, please visit our website by clicking on the 'Apply' button to download a role specific information pack and application form.

Completed applications must be returned by 21 October 2016.

Please note we are only able to review the first 200 applications received.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
