Development Chemist / Polymers / Resins / Composite Materials / Cambridgeshire / Competitive salary in line with experience

Our client is the industry leader in the manufacturing of industrial fabrics and composite materials. The organisation is currently seeking an experienced Polymer Chemist for their Cambridgeshire based facility.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

Lead/supervise one or more product or technology development projects in line with Research & Technology strategy for direct processes and next generation aircraft.
Resin formulation for resin infusion systems with a particular focus on next generation resins for large parts.
Development of matrix chemistry and composite technologies to enhance the capability for future products targeted at next generation aircraft. This will include the evaluation/development of novel resin, curative and toughening technologies appropriate to infusion processes.
Preparation and testing of laminates produced by resin infusion techniques such as resin transfer moulding (RTM), liquid resin infusion (LRI) will also be required. Results, interpretation of data and conclusions from experiments and trials will need to be reported orally and in writing e.g. via chemist reports or Technical Centre reports. Preparation of test laminates via resin infusion processes (RTM, LRI, RFI).
Manage development projects with minimal supervision and reporting of results via chemist reports and technical centre reports.
Keep up to date on external literature, such as academic papers and patents. May attend any relevant conferences or exhibitions.
Become active in other teams with Research and Technology, or related function.


A Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Chemistry degree at Masters or PHD level.
Good practical skills with some knowledge of thermoset chemistry (e.g. epoxy, cyanate, bismaleimides, bezoxazine) and/or composites would be an advantage.
Previous experience of product development or materials research would be an advantage
The ability to analyse test data and draw firm conclusions.
The ability to write accurate and concise technical reports.
Effective project management and communication skills, and be able to work independently or as a team member.
The ability to command the personal respect and confidence of colleagues and customers for technical ability.
Fluent English language skills (written and verbal
Willing to travel.
