Celgene is seeking scientific leaders to serve as Senior Scientists in Synthetic Chemistry at our R&D facilities in New Jersey.  In this critical role, you will design scaleable synthetic routes and processes to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients, facilitating the transformation of molecules from discovery into marketed products to improve the lives of patients worldwide.

The professional in this position will lead synthetic organic chemistry and/or process development efforts for high priority drug candidates.  You will solve challenging scientific and technical problems related to the synthesis, scale-up, and quality of a wide variety of molecules.  The reaction schemes and processes you discover will enable preclinical and clinical development of the drug candidates.  Supported by a multidisciplinary team, you will then transfer your scaleable technology to the manufacturing sites where it will be used to produce high quality active ingredients for our commercial products.  To achieve these objectives, you will lead and/or participate on project teams and may supervise the studies and professional development of one or more laboratory professionals.  Through interaction with the scientific community (external and internal), you will develop new scientific ideas and technologies, and capture your scientific achievements in patent applications and publications, as appropriate.

A Ph.D. degree in synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related discipline is preferred. Opportunities are available for candidates with all levels of experience, from entry level to industry expert. The candidate must have a demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, solve scientific problems, and lead other professionals in a highly collaborative environment.
