Scientist: (Antibody Engineering)

MRC Technology (MRCT) is an independent life science medical research charity committed to drastically improving positive patient outcomes everywhere. As a champion for human health, MRC Technology partners with academic, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and charity organisations to move promising medical research forward into viable and accessible patient treatments.

Our Centre for Therapeutics Discovery (CTD), recently relocated to the Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst research campus, operates at the interface between academic research and the drug discovery industry. As one of the largest and most successful academic drug discovery centres in Europe, we take novel academic targets and generate lead stage small molecules and therapeutic antibodies for indications with unmet medical need.

The BioTherapeutics Department has a wealth of experience in antibody design and deliver humanised antibodies using a range of methods. Importantly they also optimise the potency and the biophysical characteristics of the antibodies to ensure what they deliver have the best chance of being drugs. They work closely with the Biology Department to gain insights into the performance of our antibodies in relevant biological tests. In addition, they work with the chemistry team on novel technologies such as antibody-drug conjugation.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with experience of working on Antibody based drug discovery projects. With an attention to detail, you will be expected to show initiative and work collaboratively to drive successful antibody based drug discovery projects in a number of therapeutic areas.

Your role will involve working on multiple projects, and will suit a highly organized individual with excellent skills in time management. You will be part of a team developing and optimising drug like properties of antibodies across a number of antibody research programmes.

You will have in-depth research experience of Antibody engineering and characterisation with biochemical and biophysical methods.

The successful candidate must have a proven track record of molecular biology, cell biology and protein biochemistry skills. These will include general molecular biology skills such as cloning, PCR, DNA transfection, and protein biochemistry such as ELISA, protein/antibody purification, SDS PAGE. A strong knowledge of protein structure and biophysical analysis will be an asset.

Previous work experience of antibody drug discovery within the pharmaceutical or Biotechnology industry would be advantageous.

The candidate should ideally be qualified to PhD or a BSc/MSc with suitable work experience.

Your salary will be determined by qualifications and experience. In addition MRCT offers a defined contribution pension scheme, private health insurance, a flexible benefits scheme and 31 days paid holiday per year.
