Scientist: (Phage Display) Two posts

MRC Technology (MRCT) is an independent life science medical research charity committed to drastically improving positive patient outcomes everywhere. As a champion for human health, MRC Technology partners with academic, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and charity organisations to move promising medical research forward into viable and accessible patient treatments.

Our Centre for Therapeutics Discovery (CTD), recently relocated to the Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst research campus, operates at the interface between academic research and the drug discovery industry. As one of the largest and most successful academic drug discovery centres in Europe, we take novel academic targets and generate lead stage small molecules and therapeutic antibodies for indications with unmet medical need.

The BioTherapeutics Department has a wealth of experience in antibody design and deliver humanised antibodies using a range of methods. Importantly they also optimise the potency and the biophysical characteristics of the antibodies to ensure what they deliver have the best chance of being drugs. They work closely with the Biology Department to gain insights into the performance of our antibodies in relevant biological tests. In addition, they work with the chemistry team on novel technologies such as antibody-drug conjugation.

We are seeking two highly motivated scientists, who will generate antibody libraries from different sources and carry out phage display selections campaigns. Previous experience in antibody phage display is a MUST.

Your role will be primarily laboratory based, with opportunities to grow and learn in antibody phage display and antibody engineering.

Skills and previous experience

  • Experience in broad range of molecular biology cloning methods [required]
  • Experience working with phage display or another display technology [required]
  • Experience working with full antibodies, or antibody fragments [required]
  • Experience in next-generation sequencing [preferable]
  • MSc with proven industrial experience, or PhD with proven industrial experience, preferably in antibody biotherapeutics [required]
  • Ability to critically assess and analyse data [required]
  • Excellent communication and team working skills [required]
  • Versatile and willing to be exposed to a number of different projects [required]

Both positions would suit Scientists who enjoy working as key members of cross functional project teams and have excellent communication and team working skills. Successful candidates will enjoy thinking “outside the box” and presenting results and ideas in a fast paced environment.

Your salary will be determined by qualifications and experience. In addition MRCT offers a defined contribution pension scheme, private health insurance, a flexible benefits scheme and 31 days paid holiday per year.
