A General Manager is required to join an exciting, market-leading company in the brewing, food and drinks industry.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is currently acting as a team leader or departmental manager in a scientific environment; a candidate who is now ready to manage a number of teams and take the next step up the career ladder to General Manager. You will be a key member within the Company, responsible for overseeing the entire Leatherhead production operation and delivering the Company’s short and long term goals.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing company and manage our teams of experienced scientists and support staff. You will have 100% commitment and appetite to work in a small company environment and be able to hit the ground running.

In order to be successful in this position, you will have strong leadership skills coupled with a proven track record in managing multi-discipline teams delivering key business targets. Ideally you will come from a scientific background and possess a good working knowledge of ISO quality systems (specifically ISO 9001 and ISO17025).

Key Responsibilities

Management of Team Leaders and staff within the Leatherhead facility:

  1. Effective leadership of production team leaders; direct and coordinate activities of departments concerned with the production and distribution of products
  2. Identification and implementation of business process improvements to achieve on-going efficiency and reduce costs

Management of Logistics Team:

  1. A vital role managing the team who dispatch and track AROXATM flavour standards and yeast
  2. Ensure that the logistics team are always getting products out to customers within set timescales
  3. Report of information to business owners regarding timescales for delivery and associated costs
  4. Ensure that the logistics team negotiate and get the best prices for courier and outer packaging costs

Management of Administration:

  1. Accounts – Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement
  2. Oversee the timely production of management reports, payroll, sales and purchase ledger, budgets
  3. Ensure that invoicing and credit control is managed - reduce number of days between invoicing and payment
  4. Human Resources – Oversee all HR activities ensuring the business has the right people with the right skills in place to achieve the business plan and personnel are retained and encouraged to develop within the business

Facilities management:

  1. Management of operational space to support Company’s expected growth in next 10 years
  2. Liaison with property owners / building managers to build and maintain good relationships to ensure that the business runs smoothly
  3. Negotiate and control contracts for electricity, telephone costs, service contracts and other items associated with the running of the Leatherhead premises and the laboratories within our space Plan and manage on-site and off-site storage

Reporting to Company owners:

  1. Ensure that the targets set by the business owners are achieved Regular reporting against business targets set for the Company and for each team ensuring all personal development targets are aligned with the Company’s business targets
  2. Work with Company owners to improve business processes and efficiency

Customer/Supplier focus:

  1. Report to and liaise with key account holders
  2. Manage commercial contracts and proposals; ensure all contracts are in place and renewed

Overall Responsibilities:

  1. Administer daily operations
  2. Create, review and implement business procedures
  3. Work with department heads 
  4. Manage financial budgets and ensure they meet the targets set by Managing Director
  5. Take care of Company expenditure and bills
  6. Manage Company property such as telecommunication devices, laptops and laboratory equipment
  7. Handle business procurements for Leatherhead office
  8. Execute daily meetings ensuring that the business is run efficiently

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Proven track record in a management role
  • Background ideally in a scientific role
  • Experience with quality systems such as ISO

Desirable

  • Languages an advantage
  • Qualification in business administration
  • Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001: 2008; ISO 17025
