Our client is a battery materials and licensing company developing silicon anodes for the next generation of lithium-ion battery.
They are expanding their UK (Oxfordshire) based business and they currently have a requirement for a Scientist to join their team. This role is critical to the Research and Development activity necessary for the achievement of the proposed future business and business performance.
The Scientist will use relevant and robust material characterisation and cell performance information to further improve practical understanding of how materials processing, structure and properties correlate with industry-critical cell performance. It is a predominantly laboratory based role and the company is looking for a professional who has passion and a high level of commitment, and who can demonstrate urgency and achievement in what they do.
Responsibilities will include:
*Propose, design and conduct experiments to provide new anode material options. 'Hands-on' laboratory-related activities will form a significant part of the role;
*Exploit the breadth and depth of silicon and related chemistries to develop improved materials and intellectual property for application in Li-ion batteries;
*Remain current on new technological developments and monitoring of literature for relevant research papers and novel technologies;
*Understand and exploit a range of analytical and electrochemical characterisation techniques, together with statistical methods, to accelerate optimisation of both new and incumbent anode materials;
*Apply scientific excellence; maintain comprehensive and accurate records;
collaborate to establish and execute project goals to meet business objectives;
*Promote creativity and the effectiveness of peers through targeted information sharing;
*Offer input on technical and IP strategies and plans; support the filing, exemplification and examination of new intellectual property; produce project progress reports as required.
Qualifications, Technical Skills and Experience Required:
*PhD or MSc with significant proven skills in synthetic methods and novel materials development.
*Experience in a diverse range of organic and inorganic methods. Silicon chemistry and nanoparticles would be particularly desirable.
*Strong practical track record of new ideas, innovation and scientific problem solving.
*Adept at rapidly converting ideas into focused experiments with a high level of scientific discipline, rigour and urgency.
*Experience and investigation of process-structure-property relationships.
*An understanding of material science and electrochemistry.
*Competent and confident with statistical methods and structured experimentation.
*Strong planning and communication skills.
*A sound approach to health, safety and environmental aspects in the laboratory.
*An understanding of electrochemistry and experience of working within the lithium-ion battery community would be advantageous.
*A passion for laboratory work and new product development.
*Competence with a variety of materials synthesis and characterisation methods
*A proactive, self-directed, 'hands-on' approach
*Experience working on collaborative projects in a fast acting, results driven environment.
*Demonstrable experience of having worked in a project team, as well as an individual, in an industrial research and development environment in high tech industry would be favoured
