We are looking to recruit a talented Principal Programmer to join our Early Clinical Development group in either Cambridge, UK, or Gothenburg, Sweden. As part of our Clinical Trial Data Science programming group which is totally focused on delivering innovation and seeking out opportunity. This small, dynamic group allows Programmers to get involved in developing multiple activities and initiatives, as well as shaping its culture and contributing towards continuous improvement in solutions delivery.

We are currently looking for a proactive, innovative and experienced Principal Programmer to take a leading role in data operations within Clinical Trial Data Science, focusing on bringing efficiencies to our group, whilst applying programming expertise, by problem-solving with a focus on quality.


You will use your experience to lead the evaluation of programming tools and efficiencies in collecting different types of data and production of analysis within our Early Clinical Development group. You will be accountable for the development and design of utilities, tools and process to support programming efficiencies across the function, and be responsible for the creation and maintenance of tools and utilities to support of programming activities.

As a senior member of the team, you will use your expertise to define and communicate important initiatives across company-wide departments and functions, whilst contributing to the establishment and implementation of policies, procedures and objectives, either directly, or as an output from managing a team.

Your experience will allow you to leads the development of Programming standards or techniques to improve the quality, compliance and efficiency of deliverables for overall Group efficiency. You will also be accountable for specialised research or delivery of internal reports to enhance the effectiveness of Programming. Importantly, you will support the development of the group by using your extensive programming expertise, and by keeping your own knowledge of best practices and new relevant developments up to date.


To be considered for this position, it is expected that you should have extensive SAS Programming expertise, with experience in leading efficiencies and improvements in programming utilities and tools. You should also be able to demonstrate the following;

  • BSc or post graduate qualification (or local equivalent) in Mathematics, Statistics, Informatics, Life or Social Sciences or equivalent experience
  • Excellent Knowledge of Analysis and Reporting within Clinical Development
  • Excellent Communication and Collaboration Skills
  • Ability to apply programming expertise to problem solving and quality focused
  • Truth seeking rather than success seeking
  • The ability to proactively drive innovations
