The role we have open: Marketing Coordinator

We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic, energetic individual to join the New Scientist marketing team. 

The Marketing Coordinator will have responsibility primarily for promoting the New Scientist Jobs proposition to jobseekers and recruiters, as well as working with the on other New Scientist products in the consumer and business sectors.

Key outbound communication tactical skill sets in the position will focus on digital marketing including copywriting, email marketing, search engine marketing and online media, with a complimentary applicable skill set or experience in direct marketing tactics including direct mail and print media. Experience in creation and organization of these types of materials is required.   

Responsibilities include:

  • Brand Advocacy – demonstrating a clear understanding of our values of inspiring and challenging the intellectually curious and representing the New Scientist brand accordingly
  • Copywriting – ability to write effectively about the value of the New Scientist brand and the benefits to our audiences of users, advertisers and staff worldwide
  • Marketing campaign organization and creation in multiple media formats (email, online, print) – creating clear measurable objectives, coordinating creation of marketing collateral with designer
  • Project management – ability to organize and execute marketing campaigns, and analyzing results to make informed business recommendations
  • Email marketing campaign execution – ability to coordinate email campaigns from design through to dispatch, including analysis of results
  • Digital marketing campaign execution – search engine marketing, in particular PPC activity, display advertising spend and social media advertising spend (Google AdWords, Bing, Facebook advertising) tactical management and reporting
  • External Relations – developing and leveraging relationships with suppliers, vendors and partner organizations with missions and values that align with New Scientist
  • Reporting on campaign efficacy using data analysis and communicating with key business stakeholders on results
  • working closely with the Jobs sales team to define and execute marketing plans that support sales strategy
  • creating and updating sales collateral
  • creating, testing and deploying email campaigns
  • Assisting marketing manager to produce on- and offline marketing assets to promote ticket sales to live events.
  • Assist product development team in launching new products to market, in both B2B and B2C sectors.
  • Gain an understanding of our customers and target audiences, using that knowledge to communicate more effectively with them
  • Assist with overall business unit efficiency

If you’re right for this role, you will:

Key data analysis skill sets required include measuring campaign response, return on investment and campaign budget management. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data visualization tools is required.

The work level is geared towards a self-sufficient, tech-savvy, adaptable learner with experience in direct marketing, digital marketing, recruitment services, audience development, communications, business development, publishing, or science communication.

  • Degree or eqivalent in Marketing, Business, English, Communication or any area of science (including biology, chemistry, physics, etc.)
  • Experience in project management role within career to date
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Attention to detail in creating materials that are accurate and well written
  • Ability to meet production deadlines
  • Ability to work within a flexible, adaptable and collaborative international marketing team
  • be able to multitask and quickly change course as required by company or external market forces
  • have a can-do attitude and be confident in engaging with senior people and departments to quickly understand requirements, recognise opportunities or issues and get things done
  • Experience in working with sales team is an advantage
  • Knowledge of effective direct and digital marketing
  • Experience in creating and/or working with creative design professionals/ agencies
  • PC skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience with outbound marketing communication tools such as Exact Target
  • Experience with web analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics or Google Analytics
  • Knowledge or interest in science and technology is a strong plus.
