The Francis Crick Institute (the Crick) is a research institute dedicated to discovering the fundamental biology underlying human health, with the aim of improving the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of human disease.

SUMMARY

We seek a talented and motivated postdoc in Physics-Based/Mathematical (Computational) Biology to join Paul Bates’ ‘Biomolecular Modelling Laboratory’, at the Francis Crick Institute

Dr Bates’ laboratory focuses on understanding key cellular events, such as how cancer cells migrate in heterogeneous tumour environments and how chromosomes condense upon cell division. His laboratory collaborates with a number of experimentalists, such as Dr Erik Sahai studying tumour dynamics and cancer cell motility. The laboratory interprets the data from collaborating with experimental laboratories, as well as publicly available data, to aid the construction and validation of mathematical models.

PROJECT SCOPE/ DESCRIPTION

The research aims to understand cellular events at the highest level of resolution possible given the data generated within this institute and that currently available within publicly accessible databases. Synergy between computational and experimental groups can drive complex projects forward uncovering aspects not previously considered within each individual discipline. The project currently under consideration is likely to be focused on cell-cell and cell-matrix communication networks.
