Magnet Engineer / NMR/MRI / Oxfordshire / salary up to £60k in line with experience

Our client is a specialist manufacturing and research company that designs and manufactures tools and systems for industry and research.
Primary Purpose:
The principal magnet engineer is the in-house expert in magnetic field generation and magnetic circuits, providing insight and innovative solutions in all areas of magnetic circuit design.
Key Responsibilities
*Provides the link between systems engineers and magnet, gradient, shim and RF coil design
*Provides technical guidance on identifying likely failure modes in prototype magnets, gradient, shim and RF coils and assists in appropriate risk mitigation
*Provides technical guidance on the integration of magnets, shim methods, gradient coils and RF probes
*With due regard to project timelines, owns:
o the specifications for all magnets, shim, gradient & RF coils
o the build of prototype magnets, shim, gradient & RF coils
o the achievement of specified electromagnetic performance
*Develops appropriate design tools and skills for the next generations of:
o permanent magnets and field optimisation (shimming)
o room temperature shim coils
o gradient coils
o RF coils (probes)
*Identifies and champions advanced technology projects
*Assists as required in solving problems in production and in the field

Indicative Performance Measures
* Quality of magnet designs implemented
* Implementation of new designs on time and on budget
* Quality of technical guidance on field optimisation, RF probes and gradients
Person Specification - Essential requirements unless stated
Education / Qualifications:
* Relevant technical degree preferred and/or experience in the scientific industrial markets. Experience can be demonstrated.
Professional Skills/ Abilities:
* An excellent understanding of static and dynamic magnetic field circuit modelling
* A strong approach to the design of magnetic circuits using hard & soft magnetic materials and electromagnets
* A good understanding of NMR/MRI systems and the principles of operation
* Experience in integrating magnets into NMR/MRI systems
* A strong hands-on approach
* A proven ability to solve problems
Personal Qualities:
* Enthusiastic
* Self-motivated
* Able to contribute and thrive in a busy development team

Salary up to £60k in line with experience
