About the role 

  • Refers major non-standard and product quality issues to QPs (Qualified Persons) and Compliance Team
  • Interface with engineering support, Technical, Cl Team, suppliers and R&D
  • Support the site in delivering in-house and regulatory standards of compliance to best business advantage
  • Training and competency assessment of operational staff
  • To advise on, and assist with, practical operation changes and improvements
  • Front audits for the site


  • Operates as part of the Supply and Quality Assurance teams
  • Is responsible for nominated product groups
  • Around 6,000 process and 6,000 pack batches per year
  • Influences routine release and rejects sub-standard product
  • Inspections by MHRA (annual) and BSI (6 monthly) plus external third party customer inspections


  • Non-conformances
  • Identifies and supports actions to resolve quality problems, both internal issue and from outside suppliers
  • Identifies with Product Supply Leaders where support is required from support teams
  • Makes recommendations and acts to improve process, procedures and systems
  • Assesses change controls, protocols and Non Conformance Reports (NCRs), recommends release or otherwise of product involved
  • Co-ordinate area document control and assists with training regarding quality system
  • Competency of specific Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) knowledge, overview on operational competency

Key Challenges 

  • Facilitates resolution of quality issues via Area Quality Improvement Plan (AQIP)
  • Ensures NCRs capture appropriate actions and are fed to compliance team
  • Ensures long term preventative actions are captured in AQIP actions identified to support teams
  • Chairs Quality Sections of site meetings
  • Resolving on-line issues regarding quality to the point of stopping production operation and
  • freezing stock
  • Ensuring quality requirements and production requirements are considered, without detriment to either
  • Product release or reject recommendation to QP in the event of significant quality issues

Skills and Experience required 

  • Knowledge and experience of Good Manufacturing Practice and Regulatory standards
  • Good communication and problem solving skills

Technical/professional qualifications required 

  • Degree or equivalent usually in chemistry, pharmacy or microbiology

Personal Attributes 

  • Good communication skills and able to debate and negotiate with personnel from all supply functions

  • Well-developed influencing skills 
  • Diplomatic and tactful in difficult situations
  • Highly motivated and confident
  • Organised and able to deliver concise written or oral summaries to senior management

  • Able to lead on improvement plans within factory, requires a good manufacturing knowledge and an understanding of factory/quality management system.

  • Able to train and coach others
  • Persistent and driven to achieve a final solution - a completer finisher
