Director, Disease Area Teams, In Vitro Biosciences

Discovery from Charles River is a world leading, preclinical contract research organisation that can deliver in all aspects of drug discovery, from target ID, the identification of hits and leads through to the delivery of clinical candidates utilising highly experienced integrated project teams.

We have an opportunity for in vitro bio-scientists that are highly motivated and experienced in neuroscience, respiratory and inflammation or metabolic diseases to join our newly formed disease area expert teams. In addition to significant scientific input to expand the depth and breadth of the scientific relationship with current and new partners, the position will ensure there is seamless communication and transition of projects across disciplines internally, identification and implementation of cross-site/cross-functional activities in support of new or on-going programs and working with other members of the project teams and other Disease Area Experts to identify additional ways of expanding current partnerships.

In another important aspect of this role, the successful candidates will also be involved in aiding Business Development activities to identify new integrated project partners and collaborations. These activities will include meeting potential collaborators and preparing scientific proposals and presentations which outline our disease area capabilities and expertise

The ideal candidate for this role will have extensive disease area based translational biosciences experience in the pharmaceutical industry with a proven track record in developing and advancing compounds to development candidate selection and beyond. They must have broad experience of the management, mentoring and scientific direction of scientists within project teams; a dynamic and flexible approach towards achieving partner-based objectives, solving multi-factorial issues in innovative ways and meeting challenging deadlines.

  • To work with project teams across sites within your disease area to ensure high quality research thereby achieving high partner satisfaction levels
  • To work collaboratively with other Discovery groups to ensure projects are properly resourced, supported and deliver to pre-defined scientific objectives, budgets and timelines
  • To enhance scientific leadership for integrated multi-disciplinary partnered projects
  • To  collaborate in scientific proposal generation for integrated projects including site visits and proposal presentations, with scientists from the relevant Discovery sites and Business Development
  • To utilise your extensive disease area focused scientific knowledge to  extend  existing relationships
  • To promote high scientific visibility of CRL integrated drug discovery capabilities within the company and externally
